A new study validates that personal health coaching coupled with mobile technology can improve weight loss.
The study was conducted over a 12-month period and included a control group who did not have health coaching and mobile technology, instead they were treated with standard care plans including weight loss guidelines vs. a control group who were provided personal digital assistants to self-monitor diet and physical activity as well as biweekly coaching calls for 6 months.
RESULTS: The control group with the health coaching and mobile technology lost on average 3.1% more weight which generally amounted to 5% or more of their baseline weight at critical touch points.
This study reveals treatment which involves behavioral self-management activities, such as setting weight loss goals, self-monitoring, improving diet and physical activity, addressing barriers to change and strategizing on how to maintain lifestyle changes are important components to weight loss.
